Kittens – For(e) Play Mix for Hypetrak

Following a mix by the Spanish queen of bass music is a 32 minute marvel from the West Coast hip-hop/bass lionness, Kittens. You can really sense her masterful music curation ability in here, weaving hip-hop old and new, trap of all intensities, house, jersey club…resulting in a panoptic and mood-altering musical experience.

Zora Jones – Live Mix for Scratcha DVA on Rinse.fm

The word that came to mind most often while listening to this 44 minute mix by this Spanish queen of bass music was “commanding”. There is a fantastic international representation of musicians on here and I found myself continuously getting flipped and barraged by the inimitable syncopation and dissonance in these tunes. If you’re angry, this music understands.

Attitude – Blow Ya Back Out Ft. Ciara (DJ Hoodboi Remix)

DJ Hoodboi is a mainstay artist on here, and anyone following his past 2 mixes (one on Mad Decent) the past couple months have probably been not-so-patiently awaiting this scrummy club muffin’s release. It’s a free download, and exemplifies what distinguishes DJ Hoodboi from the rest of Jersey Club producers on his level: he preserves most if not all of the vocals from the tunes he remixes which may seem useful for only the sake of diversifying an upbeat bass set/playlist/etc. with vocals chopped up to the moon…but serves a greater purpose in the musical space: it reconciles listeners from the most polarized recesses of the mainstream and underground audiences. People from the radical mainstream audience just want a consistent vocal melody first and foremost, and when you have an expert like DJ Hoodboi using the groove to reconfigure and irregularize that vibe, it won’t be surprising when you see a room full of philistines and hipsters alike bouncing to this beat.

DJ Yolo Bear – That Good Good

Ok so today is overflowing with new music so I’m kicking it off with someone I’ve been waiting to post about, DJ Yolo Bear. What used to seem like a passing silly fad conceived by the musical masterminds in the LuckyMe label is now a full-blown operation of mystery and satire behind this alias, manifested through his new website, yolobear.com. The music itself is pretty hilarious yet you feel some part of your body moving, whether its visible or not. Humor is a good catalyst for adrenaline and Yolo Bear’s tunes, especially this one, is the most effective fusion of humor and energy I’ve ever heard.

Regrettably though, it appears my favorite tune I’ve heard from him, a sick reimagination of Teedra Moses’ Be Your Girl, is absent from his vinyl, yes vinyl, freshman release: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDyduFXqr5o
